Princess Louise's Victoria

Princess Louise's Victoria

The stunning statue of a young Queen Victoria by her daughter.

Location: Kensington Gardens, Kensington

Description: This marvellous white marble statue of a youthful Queen Victoria on her accession to the throne in 1837 is by her daughter Princess Louise. In this superb location on the Broadwalk in front of Kensington Palace where she was born.

Queen Victoria's sixth child and Louise's husband, the Marquis of Lorne, occupied the Duke of Sussex's apartments here at Kensington Palace after the death of his widow in 1873.

By the age of 20 Princess Louise had exhibited at the Royal Academy and when she lived here immediately built herself a studio fit for one of the very few female sculptresses at the time.
