The Elgin
Joe Strummer's favourite Ladbroke Grove boozer.
Location: 96 Ladbroke Grove, Notting Hill, W11 1PY
Description: This buzzing bohemian pub dating from 1856 has always had a musical connection, from being a mod hangout in the 1950's to punk with Joe Strummer's 101'ers in the 1970's.
The stories go that he was drinking here at the bar before heading out to participate in the 1976 Carnival riot.
Serial killer John Christie was a regular and lived nearby at the now demolished 10 Rillington Place.
The also do art exhibits on musical themes upstairs.
The building is Grade II listed and as such retains numerous period details. Try and spot the quirky doors to allow the servicing of the beer engines in times gone by!
