Thames, Grundy and Sex Pistols
The scene of punk legends Sex Pistols on live TV, Bad idea.
Location: Euston Road
Description: Here (until 1996) used to be the old studio's and transmission centre of Thames TV. It was built in 1969 specifically for Thames Television's headquarters and a set of small studio's for local news and small-scale programmes.
In April 1970, a mentally ill 25-year old unemployed advertising model called Patricia Drew entered the main foyer and threw a petrol bomb at the reception desk, causing minor damage. She had delusions that David Frost and Eamonn Andrews were part of a government experiment to hypnotise people via television transmissions even though they didn't work for Thames at the time.
During a strike by engineers in 1979 the power here was switched off during the dispute, causing channel blackouts.
Thames moved out in 1994 and the building was demolished in 1996.
This Is Your Life, Kenny Everett's Video Show and Bill Grundy's Today programmes were filmed here. In fact these studio's were the location for his most infamous interview with The Sex Pistols:
