The Red Lion of Soho
Karl Marx lectured upstairs here in 1847 with Frederick Engels.
Location: 20 Great Windmill Street, Soho, London, W1D 7LQ
Description: In 1847, Karl Marx (while living in Dean Street) and Frederick Engels gave lectures in a room above the Red Lion pub, the room of which is now a restaurant.
Here they wrote an 'action programme' for The Communist League. This programme was published in 1848 as the Communist Manifesto, which 70 years later was the basis for the Russian Revolution and formation of the Soviet Union.
