Description: Luckily cockfighting has been illegal for 70 years, but alas once upon time it was as common as pub darts and a game of pool.

The Cockpit, halfway between Blackfriars and St Paul's, is said to have staged the last legal cockfight in England. Indeed, the circular layout of the bar was once the arena and the upstairs gallery where the 'posh' people would have stood to watch and place their bets.

Thanks goodness that time moves on, today it is just a solid pub offering all that pubs should offer...
