The Freud's Lived Here
The last home of Sigmund Freud - Austrian neurologist.
Location: Freud Museum, 20 Maresfield Gardens, NW3 5SX
Description: Sigmund Freud was a man... and also an Austrian neurologist and psychiatrist who co-founded the psychoanalytic school of psychology.
Freud is best known for his theories of the unconscious mind... now look no further and see where it all started. This is Freud's last house and a shrine to the great man.
The library and study are kept as if he were still mooching about with a sumptuous couch that simply needs an in-depth discussion to take place...alas you can look but not touch!
Martha Bernays Freud lived here for 12 years after Sigmund's death.
Note that there are two plaques here - one for Sigmund and one for his daughter and pioneer of child psychoanalysis Anna Freud (who died in 1982).
Freud had lived for many years in Vienna, where his consulting rooms are also preserved, but he fled the Nazis and came to England with his family in 1938.
