The inventor of Britpop was born here in 1968 - a good year

Location: Whitechapel Road, E1 1BB

Description: Well...it is believed that the great 'Damon Albarn' was born in this very location on the 23 March 1968.

As a Grammy Award-winning English singer-songwriter and record producer, Damon's eclectic musical style and observational lyrics have made him one of England's most successful musicians of the past 20 years.

Albarn came to prominence as the frontman of Brit-pop rock band Blur who were basically 'brilliant' and who pioneered the whole 'Brit-pop' scene with a single that was probably released a year too early...'Popscene' - a fantastic record!

He has been involved in many high profile projects and collaborations throughout his career, but is perhaps best known internationally for his work with popular virtual band Gorillaz, within which he serves as the principal songwriter and, under the alias '2D', lead vocalist.

Other subsequent projects have included The Good, the Bad & the Queen, Monkey: Journey to the West and Mali Music. Albarn has sold over 30 million records internationally as of 2008 and is fine chap - good man!
