This is where World Cup Winner Sir Alf Ramsey was born.

Location: Five Elms Road, Becontree, Dagenham

Description: This is where future England manager Sir Alf Ramsey was born. His father was a hay merchant living in a wooden cottage on Five Elms Farm here - now long gone to suburbia.

After the war, he told a fib, that he was born in 1922 and not 1920 in order to increase his playing career. It caused a scandal later, but nothing can dampen the success he made managing the England Football Team to the World Cup success in 1966.

He went to Five Elms School nearby, and first played football on a playing field behind the (now demolished) Merry Fiddlers pub which is where the local Morrisons supermarket is now up Wood Lane not far away.
