Mozart family in Frith Street

Mozart family in Frith Street

This is where Mozart lived and gave performances for the public.

Location: 21 Frith Street, Soho, London, W1D 4RN

Description: The Mozart family lodged at 15 'Thrift Street', now 21 Frith Street. The current buildings were rebuilt in 1858 and again in the 20th Century. They stayed with a 'staymaker' called Thomas Williamson.

By June 1765 finances were suffering so Wolfgang's father Leopold invited the public to come and pay to hear the children play, and to test Wolfgang Amadeus by 'giving him anything to play at Sight, or any music without Bass, which he will write upon the Spot.'
