O2 Forum Kentish Town
Hot and controversial North London live music venue.
Location: 9-17 Highgate Road, Kentish Town, NW5 1JY
Description: The O2 Forum Kentish Town is a popular concert venue originally built as an art deco cinema (designed by John Stanley Beard) in 1934. It closed and became a Irish dance hall, bingo hall, music hall and in 1985 a live music venue called Town & Country Club. The final show was Van Morrison on the 21st March 1993 before Mean Fiddler bought and renamed it the London Forum.
In 2015, the venue was acquired by Live Nation, and re-branded as O2 Forum Kentish Town, as part of the O2 Academy Group.
Performers here include The Who, Tom Jones, James Brown, Bon Jovi, David Bowie, Oasis, The Smashing Pumpkins and Rage Against the Machine.
The original interior (by WR Bennett), features a series of friezes depicting Roman battle scenes and still prove controversial. Rumour has it that they were paid for by Mussolini to support a rally for Oswald Mosley which never took place.
