The Royal Oak
Proper boozer - 'Harveys' brewery - Mild available on tap.
Location: 44 Tabard Street, London, SE1 4JU
Description: This really is a proper boozer...the only pub in London tied to the Lewes brewer 'Harveys' - and one of only a handful to serve a good pint of 'mild' as standard. Sadly, the sign that did say Larger drinkers will only be served if accompanied by a responsible adult has been taken down.
The Royal Oak is an 1870's Victorian building redone up in 1997 by Harvey's.
The Royal Oak, refers to the story of Charles II avoiding capture, following his defeat at the Battle of Worcester in 1651, by hiding in the hollow trunk of an oak tree.
