This is where 2 silk cutters were hung for inciting rioting.

Location: Salmon and Ball, 502 Bethnal Green Rd, London, E2 0EA

Description: On 6th December 1769, fabric cutters John Doyle and John Valline were hanged here outside the Salmon and Ball public house in Bethnal Green. A huge crowd of local people came to watch them die. Some of them threw stones and bricks at the men who set up the gallows.

The arrests and hangings were in response to recent rioting between the silk cutters and the master cutters. These two were the union representatives and/or ringleaders, and were hung unusually away frfom Tyburn here to curb the violence in the silk area.
