Description: The British comic actor Terry Thomas was born here as Thomas Terry Hoar-Stevens (19111990).

He grew up here and was educated at Ardingly College before working as a clerk with Union Cold Storage Company.

He squeezed into entertainment and soon careered into representing classic British cad-rotters with his moustache, cigarette holder, and dressing gown.

His performance as Major Hitchcock in John and Roy Boulting's Private's Progress (1956) saw the birth of his catchphrase, you're an absolute shower.
