Clemence Dane lived here

The author and playwright lived here in the 1950's.
Location: 34 Hamilton Terrace, St Johns Wood
Description: In 1946 Miss E Arnold shared this house for 11 years with novelist Winifred Ashton (18881965), who wrote under the pseudonym of Clemence Dane. She took her curious pen name from the church, St Clement Danes on the Strand and wrote more than 30 plays and 16 novels.
She was called a gallant old girl by Noel Coward, and is believed to be the model for Madame Arcati in Coward's Blithe Spirit. A splendid portrait of Coward she painted is now in the National Portrait Gallery, and a bronze bust of Ivor Novello in The Happy Hypocrite (1936) is now in the V&A Museum.
