A Pint and a Perm
It is a Tailors, a Pub, or a Hairdresser...you decide
Location: 38 Maddox Street, W1S 1PD
Description: Now this really is now a pub - the 'Masons' Arms' - but in fact it could in theory have been called... 'Highlights House'!
And why...well during the 18th Century the ground floor was in fact a tailor's shop when a German gentleman called William Lelong opened his hairdressing salon. (he must have done a bit of trouser ceasing on the side)
In 1858 he passed on the ownership to Mrs Charlotte Wars who thought to hell with hair and transformed the premises into a public house and called it the Masons Arms in recognition to the contribution made by the stonemasons to the completion of all the buildings in the areas...
A fine member of society - and still a fine little pub! So now you know.
