1867 Ice Skating Disaster
In January 1867 40 ice skaters died here when the ice broke.
Location: Regent's Park Boating Lake, London
Description: Here on 15th January 1867, while skating was taking place, the ice collapsed. Over 200 people were plunged into the freezing lake, and 40 skaters died.
The deep lake was then reduced soon after to just 4 feet in depth.
