The Battle of Waterloo 2

This is where 8 gang members were killed in a riot in 1927

Location: 81 Waterloo Road, Waterloo, SE1 8UD

Description: In 1927 a full scale gang riot broke out here outside the Duke of Wellington pub, dubbed at the the Battle of Waterloo.

Pitched battles between Charles 'Wag' McDonald's and ruthless Little Italy hoodlum Charles Sabini's gangs broke out across the city, reaching a climax when eight people were killed here. The Home Secretary and government were so concerned that they quickly introduced a raft of new police powers to deal with such gangs.
