The Carpenters Arms
The pub owned by the Kray twins for their mother.
Location: 73 Cheshire Street, Bethnal Green
Description: This was local gangster's Reggie and Ronnie Kray's local boozer. They bought it in 1967 for their mother Violet, who used to run it at the weekend. Legend has it that the bar top was replaced with wood from coffin lids, and that they put their boxing gloves up on display behind the bar.
After slipping into heavier gangland wars, both twins ended up convicted with life sentences for murder.
Reggie Kray's funeral cortege passed down here by the Carpenters Arms in 2000.
