Description: Fashion designer Lee Alexander McQueen CBE (19692010) was one of the most celebrated fashion designers of his generation.
His designs fused creativity with exceptional technical skill, leading to a glittering global fashion career and accolades such as 4-time British Designer of the Year and a CBE for services to the fashion industry.
He was also recognised as International Designer of the Year in 2003, and worldwide celebrities like Nicole Kidman, Sarah Jessica Parker, Bjork, Michelle Obama, Beyonc and Lady Gaga have all worn Alexander McQueen.
Catherine, Princess of Wales opted for Alexander McQueen for both her wedding dress and the Coronation.
Known to his friends and family as Lee, McQueen began his sartorial journey in Newham, at a tailoring course at Newham College. He grew up here in South Stratford.
A blue plaque was unveiled here on Friday 30th June 2023 during London Fashion Week.
