Description: The newly refurbished gastro-local Islington pub The Florence Tavern has one famous Landlord in it's locker.

After his retirement Jack Burke, also known as The Irish Lad, became landlord here in November 1895 leaving the following year. He started as a bare knuckle fighter on Hackney Marshes but went on to win the English Middleweight and claimed the World Middleweight title too as well as a record (but unqualified) 517 bouts!
