The Stratford Shoal
Is it hiding or enhancing the old Stratford shopping centre?
Location: Great Eastern Road, Stratford
Description: The Stratford Centre, Stratford's old shopping centre, sitting sadly opposite the immense new Westfield and Olympic Park, has been given this shimmering new sculpture art piece to brighten it's entrance up.
Architects and urban designers Studio Egret West have designed this 150metre long glistening wall of titanium scaled fish on tree's unveiled in 2013. In the wind they are designed to flutter with it.
The competition-winning scheme tackles problems caused by the centre's design which placed the delivery bays and car parking ramps directly opposite the area's busy rail station.
