Society for Psychical Research
The Society for Psychical Research were founded here in 1882.
Location: 14 Deans Yard, Westminster, SW1P 3PA
Description: This was the location of the founding of the Society for Psychical Research in 1882 by three dons of Trinity College, Cambridge, Edmund Gurney, Frederic William Henry Myers, and Henry Sidgwick, because of their interest in spiritualism.
They had a learned desire for an organization to conduct research of the paranormal and its related phenomena - ghosts, trance states, telepathy, etc.
Today the Society continues with its aim of understanding events and abilities commonly described as 'psychic' or 'paranormal' by promoting and supporting important research in this area.
Today they are based in 49 Marloes Road, Kensington, London.
